Toronto Mendelssohn Choir announces exciting new concert in 2016/17 season

TMC extends its subscription season with a concert with the Huddersfield Choral Society

The TMC is thrilled to welcome the UK’s acclaimed Huddersfield Choral Society (founded in 1836) to Toronto this Spring.  On June 4th these two world-class choirs will join forces and present a concert of choral classics through the ages, filling Yorkminster Park with a grand symphonic sound. The full concert program for Choral Splendour will be announced shortly.

Noel Edison, TMC Artistic Director, who is celebrating his 20th season with the Choir, says of Choral Splendour: “To have these two venerable choral institutions performing together is a great way to round out my 20th anniversary with the TMC.  It reminds us how choral music has an amazing ability to bring people together – even across the Atlantic – and bind them in a community that really radiates and speaks to everyone. “

This concert will also be part of the TMC’s webcasting program, webcast live on Livestream.com.

Huddersfield Choral Society

Founded in 1836, the Huddersfield Choral Society has developed an international reputation as one of the UK’s leading choral societies.  The Society’s concert season is centred on its three subscription and two public concerts in Huddersfield Town Hall, including its annual performances of Messiah. The choir also performs in other major concert venues in the UK and abroad, regularly broadcasts for BBC radio and television, and has a long history of pioneering recordings.  (Huddersfield is a large market town in West Yorkshire, England, located halfway between Leeds and Manchester.)

Choral Splendour is part of Huddersfield Choral Society’s tour to Toronto which also includes a performance of Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast with the TMC and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
