The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir welcomes you to our Saturday morning singing workshop, Singsation. Each workshop is led by a member of TMChoir’s artistic community and these facilitators will guide you in the exploration of their choral music of choice, across a variety of genres, cultures and musical eras. Start your Saturday with people who love to sing!

Theme: A New Generation of Canadian Choral Composers

Join us for an energizing Singsation with conductor, composer, and TMSinger Kai Leung celebrating a new generation of Canadian choral composers whose fresh perspectives are opening new possibilities for the choral art form. Together, we’ll explore music by Sami Anguaya, Francesca Hauser, Nicholas Wanstall, and more, uncovering the stories, ideas, and inspirations that give each work its distinctive voice. Discover your next favourite composer and hear the future of Canadian choral music come alive.

Theme: From Handel to Elgar: Exploring the Great English Choral Tradition

Explore some of the greatest works in the English choral tradition, from the grandeur of Handel to the rich, expansive sound world of Elgar. Through music by composers including Handel, Parry, Stanford and Elgar, we’ll trace the evolution of this remarkable tradition and discover how its sound, style and institutions helped shape choral music far beyond Britain, including the development of Canada’s own choral culture. 

Join Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Artistic Director Jean-Sébastien Vallée for a journey through some of the most enduring works in the English choral tradition.

Theme: Belonging, Connection & Shared Music-Making

Music has a remarkable way of bringing us together. Join Jody Malone, Artistic Director of Singing Out, Canada’s largest 2SLGBTQIA+ mixed choir, for a life-affirming Singsation exploring two expansive, transcendent works by composers Ola Gjeilo and Elaine Hagenberg.

Inspired by Singing Out’s inclusive, non-auditioned community, this session welcomes everyone, from first-time singers to experienced musicians. Together, we’ll discover how different voices, skills and perspectives can come together to create something beautiful. Come and experience the joy of singing together!
