Here’s a great opportunity to sing with artistic director Jean-Sébastien Vallée in the professional chamber ensemble that forms the core of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.

The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir has completed auditions for its Professional Core for the 2022/23 season. Members of the TMC’s Professional Core (16-24 singers) perform in TMC concerts, singing as part of the full TMC and as a separate ensemble. They will also perform as a professional chamber ensemble representing the TMC in other performances and educational activities. Pro Core singers also have the opportunity to audition for solos within certain TMC concerts. There will be a new name for the professional core ensemble announced for the 2022/23 season. The TMC and its Professional Core are led by Artistic Director Jean-Sébastien Vallée.

Singers who are offered a place In the Pro Core will receive competitive pay and a contract for one year.
To apply for an audition please submit:
- A current resume
- Two references including phone numbers and e-mail addresses
- Also recommended, if available: Audio recordings including two solo vocal works in contrasting styles and languages.

Singers who receive an in-person audition should prepare the following materials:
- Gloria (B minor Mass) – Johann Sebastian Bach | MM. 1-113 (performed at A440 | All sopranos should prepare the sop. 1 line)
- Kyrie (Requiem in D) – José Maurício Nunes Garcia (performed at A440)
- One piece to highlight the applicant’s musical strengths and solo ability
- Octatonic scale up and down
- The audition may also include sight-singing exercises; rhythmic sight-reading; and pitch and interval exercises
Auditions will be in person with appropriate Covid-19 safety precautions in place.
Annual Pro Core auditions are held in January/February.
