Laurence Lemieux

Laurence Lemieux is a choreographer, performer, presenter, teacher and artistic director of Citadel + Compagnie. Born in Québec City, Laurence studied dance at L’École Supérieure de Danse du Québec, and at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. Her performance career began when she joined Toronto Dance Theatre in 1986. A member of the company for 8 years, Lemieux’s 1998 performance in House’s Cryptoversa earned her the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Best Performance in Dance. Laurence also began presenting her own choreographic works while at TDT.

Founded in 2000 by Bill Coleman and Laurence Lemieux, Citadel + Compagnie (formerly Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie) is a dance organization with its home, The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance, embedded within the Regent Park community of downtown Toronto. Through its creation, curation and cultivation of contemporary dance, Citadel + Compagnie’s vision is for exceptional dance to reach diverse communities and audiences and foster ongoing dialogue between artists and the public.
