Named one of CBC’s 2025 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30, bass-baritone Alex Halliday has been praised for his ability in finding “a beautiful balance between strapping and lyric” (Globe and Mail) in his performances. On the concert stage, Alex has recently performed Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle with Société d’art vocal de Montréal, Mozart’s Requiem with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony and the Mandle Philharmonic, and has appeared as the bass soloist in Handel’s Messiah for the Bach Elgar Choir, Peterborough Singers, and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. Recent operatic highlights feature debuts with Pacific Opera Victoria as Angelotti in Puccini’s Tosca, Vancouver Opera as Colline in Puccini’s La bohème, and Edmonton Opera as Fafner in Wagner’s Siegfried.
An alumnus of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio, he has joined the company for the Duke in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, the Poacher in Janacek’s Cunning Little Vixen, the Second Nazarene in Strauss’ Salome, and Dr. Grenvil in Verdi’s La traviata.
