Matheus Coelho

Matheus Coelho is a Brazilian-born conductor, baritone, and clarinetist. With engagements in symphonic, choral, operatic, and popular music, Matheus has been trained in multifaceted settings that correspond to his versatile performance style and production.

Matheus was part of the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra Academy of Music, studying under the guidance of Marin Alsop and Wagner Polischuk. He attended several festivals and masterclasses, coached by Sian Edwards, Neil Thomson, Cristian Măcelaru, Giancarlo Guerrero, among others, conducting professional orchestras, including the Minas Gerais Philharmonic, with performances at the São Paulo Hall and Minas Gerais Hall. As a trained baritone, Matheus has had extensive exposure to the vocal world, performing with choirs and opera companies in Brazil and Canada as both a singer and conductor. He studied voice and choral conducting with Angelo Fernandes and was also mentored by Mel Braun, Elroy Friesen, and Jamie Hillman.

Currently, Matheus is pursuing a doctoral degree in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Toronto under the guidance of Maestro Uri Mayer. He is also a choral member of the Nathaniel Dett Chorale and the Metropolitan United Church Choir.
