Toronto Mendelssohn Choir takes on Haydn’s magnificent Creation, April 27th

Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Festival Orchestra and guest soloists perform
Haydn’s magnificent Creation, April 27th
 at Koerner Hall

“Haydn’s music is the sorbet of life. It’s fresh – not over-played, not over-worked” says Artistic Director Noel Edison of his decision to program Franz Joseph Haydn’s The Creation this season.

This grand oratorio (first performed in April 1798) tells the turbulent story of Creation, from Chaos through to Sing the Lord, with text taken from Genesis, the Book of Psalms and John Milton’s Paradise Lost.  The full forces of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir will be joined by the Festival Orchestra and by rising Canadian soloists Leslie Ann Bradley (soprano), Zach Finkelstein (tenor) and Alexander Hajek (baritone) to fill Koerner Hall with the drama and intensity of Haydn’s masterpiece.

Soprano Leslie Ann Bradley is currently based in New York and performs in opera and in concert across North America. She made her debut with the TMC in 2011. Tenor Zach Finkelstein has received praise as a tenor soloist in North America and abroad. Closer to home, he recently won Tafelmusik’s 2016 Vocal Competition.  Based in Germany, baritone Alexander Hajek sings with the world renowned Semperoper in Dresden and tours internationally. Finkelstein and Hajek make their TMC debuts with this performance.

Grand symphonic sound is the TMC’s hallmark and the Choir regularly performs grand oratorios to critical acclaim. The TMC last performed The Creation in 2008.

Tickets for this concert start at $35 with $20 VoxTix available for patrons 30 and under. Tickets are on sale through the Koerner Hall Box Office. More information on the concert and online ticket purchase can be found at www.tmchoir.org/creation.

As part of the TMC’s outreach program, the concert will also be livestreamed.  Viewers, from anywhere in the world with an internet connection, can watch the webcast at https://livestream.com/TMChoir/Creation.  This webcast, one of four for the 2015-16 season, is made possible by an anonymous donor.
