Toronto Mendelssohn Choir presents Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis

Choir, orchestra and soloists ◊ May 15, 2013 ◊ Koerner Hall

The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir concludes its 12/13 concert season on May 15 th with Beethoven’s grand Missa Solemnis. Beethoven called it the greatest work that he had ever composed, inscribing on the manuscript, “Von Herzen – möge es wieder zu Herzen gehen” (From the heart – may it in turn go to the heart).

TMC Artistic Director Noel Edison will be marshalling large musical forces — the 120-voice Choir, Festival Orchestra and noted soloists – to bring this testament of Beethoven’s beliefs on life and religion to life. This concert features four critically acclaimed Canadian soloists who regularly appear on the international stage. The TMC is pleased to welcome back soprano Shannon Mercer, mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabó, and tenor Michael Colvin. This concert will be the TMC premiere for baritone Michael Adair, returning from Germany to his hometown of Toronto for this performance.

More details on the concert, including musical clips and program notes, can be found on the TMC website (UPDATE LINK)
