Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Crowning Glory Gala commemorates the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation in words, images and song

Friday, October 25, 2013 in the castle setting of Casa Loma, Toronto

The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir’s 2013 fundraising gala invites guests to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The TMC is delighted that the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario will be in attendance.

Crowning Glory will be set in the elegant Conservatory, Library and Great Hall of Casa Loma. Guests will be taken back to 1953 and the glamour of the Coronation through a spectacular multimedia program, including digitally-enhanced colour film footage, narrated by Toronto historian and author Hugh Brewster. Distinguished actors Christopher Newton and Brigitte Robinson will read excerpts from the letters of royal family members and famous diarists of the day such as Noel Coward, Cecil Beaton, and Chips Cannon. Canada’s contribution to the occasion will be recalled through the memories of prominent attendees such as Tommy Douglas, Louis St. Laurent and composer Healey Willan. Singers from the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and other musicians will recreate the distinctive music of the era, under the direction of Grammy-nominated conductor Noel Edison.

Cocktails and dinner will be inspired by the actual menu of the Savoy Hotel’s Coronation Ball.

Crowning Glory takes place Friday, October 25, 2013 at 6 pm at Casa Loma. Tickets can be purchased for the evening by calling 416-598-0422, ext 221. Funds raised by the gala support the artistic and outreach programming of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
