Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and guest artist André Laplante perform music of
Brahms, Listz, Mendelssohn and Schubert, November 25th at Koerner Hall
TMC artistic director Noel Edison has put together an enchanting program of choral lieder and solo piano from the Romantic period. The concert, German Romantics, takes place in the beautiful space and acoustics of Koerner Hall on Wednesday, November 25 at 7:30 pm.
The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir will be joined by Canadian pianist André Laplante, regarded as one of the great romantic virtuosos. He tours internationally, regularly performs as an orchestral soloist, and has recorded extensively. The TMC is thrilled to bring him to the Koerner Hall stage. Laplante will perform selections from Liszt’s Petrarch Sonnets and Schubert’s Moments Musicaux. He will also join the Choir and TMC accompanist James Bourne for Schubert’s Kantate fur Irene Kiesewetter for choir and four-hand piano.
The Choir will perform Brahms’ lively Zigeunerlieder and works by Schubert and Mendelssohn. The precision, responsiveness and musicality of the 130-voice choir, under conductor Noel Edison and associate conductor Jennifer Min-Young Lee, will draw out the lyrical melodies, rich harmonies and expressiveness of this music of the Romantic period. All the works will be performed in German, with English translations provided in the concert program.
Tickets for this concert start at $35 with $20 VoxTix available for patrons 30 and under. Tickets are on sale through the Koerner Hall Box Office. More information on the concert and online ticket purchase can be found on the concert webpage.
As part of the TMC’s outreach program, the concert will also be livestreamed. Viewers, from anywhere in the world with an internet connection, can watch the webcast at http://livestream.com/TMChoir/GermanRomantics. This webcast, one of four for the 2015-16 season, is made possible by an anonymous donor.
