SUMMARY:Singsation with Jody Malone
DESCRIPTION:Join Jody Malone for a Singsation workshop.\nIt’s a community singing workshop\, and a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning\, with people who love to sing! \nThe Theme: Belonging\, Connection & Shared Music-Making \nMusic has a remarkable way of bringing us together. Join Jody Malone\, Artistic Director of Singing Out\, Canada’s largest 2SLGBTQIA+ mixed choir\, for a life-affirming Singsation exploring two expansive\, transcendent works by composers Ola Gjeilo and Elaine Hagenberg. \nInspired by Singing Out’s inclusive\, non-auditioned community\, this session welcomes everyone\, from first-time singers to experienced musicians. Together\, we’ll discover how different voices\, skills and perspectives can come together to create something beautiful. Come and experience the joy of singing together!  \nYour Conductor: \nJody Malone is the Artistic Director of Singing Out\, Toronto\, as well as a retired music teacher from Cawthra Park Secondary School for the Performing Arts in Mississauga. She has worked with all the pianists there\, as well as having conducted the women’s choir\, the mixed choir\, the jazz choir and the Mass choir. A graduate of McGill University with an Honours in School Music\, a graduate of the University of Toronto in Education and a graduate of OISE Toronto in Counselling Psychology\, Jody brings an emotional understanding of the power of music to be essential to the healing process. Without music\, we are lesser human beings. With music\, we are limitless.  \nThe workshop will take place in Cameron Hall at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church. \nAdmission: $20 (+ fees) online or $30 at the door \nRegister for the Workshop \nSingsation is made possible through the support of our donors

SUMMARY:Considering Matthew Shepard
DESCRIPTION:In this performance\nConsidering Matthew Shepard by Craig Hella Johnson \nOn the music\nAs global challenges to LGBTQ+ rights intensify\, Craig Hella Johnson’s Considering Matthew Shepard stands as a profoundly relevant and moving work. Performed by the Toronto Mendelssohn Singers\, this 21st-century secular passion reflects on love\, loss\, and the enduring human capacity for compassion. \nThe oratorio reflects on the life and tragic death of Matthew Shepard\, whose 1998 murder became a catalyst for LGBTQ+ advocacy. Blending classical\, jazz\, and folk influences with texts drawn from poets\, mystics\, historical sources\, and writings connected to Shepard’s life—including a brief excerpt from his own correspondence—the work creates a powerful space for reflection and remembrance. Presented in a semi-staged performance\, it offers a poignant call for empathy\, compassion\, and understanding. \nSubscribe & Save \nSubscriptions are now on sale! Single tickets will be available in Summer 2026.
