An August evening in 1894, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir was founded by a deeply committed group of citizens who had a vision – of a choral organization “whose tonal quality and expression resembles that of a fine orchestra, in which every performer is a trained musician”. This same vision continues to drive us today, in our never-ending pursuit of artistic excellence.
Through our performances, concert tours, and long tradition of radio broadcasts, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir has been a source of joy and inspiration for generation after generation of choral music lovers across Canada. At the TMC, we believe in the power of choral music to build communities and to change people’s lives for the better, and we believe that this is what we have been doing for 117 years and counting.
Today, we are fortunate to be supported by a strong and dedicated community of individuals, corporations, private foundations, and government agencies, who make our work possible through their generous charitable donations and grants.
The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir is a registered charity, and even when we fill every seat in the house, our ticket revenue covers less than half the cost of performing! We invite you to consider how you can help keep the TMC singing and making the world a better place through choral music.
