Bequests and Planned Gifts

Support the future of choral music with a planned gift to the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.

The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir is Canada’s oldest continuously performing arts organization. Since 1894, the TMC has enriched the lives of Torontonians of all ages and from all walks of life, even during the difficult days of war and economic hardship. The strength of the TMC lies in its overriding mission to enhance the personal lives of Canadians through the power of choral music.

The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir has worked hard over the years to balance lofty artistic goals with fiscal responsibility. Building on the cornerstone provided us by the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Foundation (1969 to 2009), today we are working hard to build a legacy for future generations.

How can you help us build that legacy?

A Bequest in your Will

Naming the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir in your Will ensures that your wish to support the future of choral music is honoured after you pass away. The gift can be a percentage of your estate, a specific dollar amount, or a residual amount.

All bequests to the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir are allocated to the TMC Legacy Fund, which was created as a "fund for the future" from money originally invested in the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Foundation. The Legacy Fund is protected by formal investment and disbursement policies, with 95% of the investment portfolio being reserved for the long-term future of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. An annual amount, not to exceed 5% of the market value of the investment account at August 31 of the prior year, is transferred to the TMC’s operating budget each year.

A Gift of Life Insurance

A gift of a new or existing life insurance policy means you can build a larger legacy than you thought possible and enjoy tax savings as well.

Gifts of Securities

Donating publicly traded securities means you can obtain a tax receipt for the full market value, without paying any capital gains tax.

Benefits

Your planned gift can create excellent tax advantages. We encourage you to choose the type of gift that best suits your needs and interests. Whatever you decide, your gift will be remembered by the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir in many ways. We invite you to become a member of the TMC Legacy Circle – a special group of individuals who have made a commitment to the future of choral music through a planned gift to the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. We will invite you to special donor events throughout the year and include your name along with other Legacy Circle members in TMC house programmes. (Of course, you can also choose to remain anonymous.)

I am immensely proud that my bequest gift will enable the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir to continue producing powerful concert experiences for audiences across our city, our province, and our world. My commitment also ensures that future generations will be able to experience the same passion I now share for choral music through the TMC’s education and outreach programming.
