Sacred Music for a Sacred Space

Fri., Feb. 22, 2008 - 8:00 p.m.
Sun., Feb. 24, 2008 - 3:00 p.m.
St. Paul’s Basilica
83 Power Street (at Queen St. East)

Grand masterworks will be performed completely a cappella in the magnificent, reverberant acoustics of St. Paul’s Basilica. Spiritual music from different traditions includes the incomparable Vespers (All Night Vigil) by Sergei Rachmaninoff and An Apostrophe to the Heavenly Hosts by Canadian composer Healey Willan. Ruth Watson Henderson’s sparse and angular Missa Brevis provides a satisfying contrast to the other works. The Victoria Scholars will join with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir to create a splendidly rich vocal experience.
