Audition for the TMC
The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir invites experienced singers with a passion for great choral music to join Canada’s premier symphonic choir.
If you are between 17 and 22 years old, you can audition to be a TMC Apprentice.
Annual auditions are held in the spring and early September. Auditions consist of a set piece and some sight-reading and ear tests; an accompanist will be provided. See below for the Audition Application Form and the audition pieces.
Good sight-reading and rhythm skills are necessary, as well as the willingness and ability to commit to a challenging schedule of rehearsals and performances (approx. 170 hours in total from September to June).
Regular rehearsals are held on Monday nights from 7:00-9:30 pm at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church (Yonge & St. Clair). Additional rehearsals are held preceding each performance.
Please review the current schedule prior to your audition to get a sense of the commitment required of our choristers.
TMC choristers pay a fee comprised of an annual membership fee and a one-time music deposit, and must purchase their own choir uniform. All choristers must also sign a commitment form whereby they agree to abide by the guidelines of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
If you are auditioning to be a TMC Apprentice (between 17 and 22 years old), visit the TMC Apprentice page.
You must mail or email back the completed application form to be considered for an audition (addresses found on the bottom of the application form). Please bring with you to the audition one copy of your audition piece.
