Audition for the TMC
The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir invites experienced singers with a passion for great choral music to join Canada’s premier symphonic choir.
If you are between 17 and 22 years old, you can audition to be a TMC Apprentice.
In addition to four self-produced subscription series performances at Koerner Hall and two church venues, TMC performances in 2013/14 will include 16 concerts with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and other guest appearances.
Good sight-reading and rhythm skills are necessary, as well as the willingness and ability to commit to a challenging schedule of rehearsals and performances (approx. 170 hours in total from September to June).
Regular rehearsals are held on Monday nights from 7:00-9:30 pm at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church (Yonge & St. Clair). Additional rehearsals are held preceding each performance.
Download the 2013/14 schedule of performances and rehearsals. This is just a preliminary draft, and subject to change come September. Please review the schedule prior to your audition (which shows the commitment required of our choristers).
TMC choristers pay a fee comprised of an annual membership fee and a one-time music deposit, and must purchase their own choir uniform. All choristers must also sign a commitment form whereby they agree to abide by the guidelines of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.
Auditions for the 2013/14 season will be held on May 20th & 21st, and in early September 2013. The audition will consist of a set piece (see below), and some sight-reading and ear tests. An accompanist will be provided.
You must mail or email back the completed application form to be considered for an audition (addresses found on the bottom of the application form). Please bring with you to the audition one copy of your audition piece.
