Audition for the TMC

The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir invites experienced singers with a passion for great choral music to join Canada’s premier symphonic choir.

If you are between 17 and 22 years old, you can audition to be a TMC Apprentice.

In addition to four self-produced subscription series performances at Koerner Hall and two church venues, TMC performances in 2013/14 will include 16 concerts with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and other guest appearances.

Good sight-reading and rhythm skills are necessary, as well as the willingness and ability to commit to a challenging schedule of rehearsals and performances (approx. 170 hours in total from September to June).

Regular rehearsals are held on Monday nights from 7:00-9:30 pm at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church (Yonge & St. Clair). Additional rehearsals are held preceding each performance.

TMC choristers pay a fee comprised of an annual membership fee and a one-time music deposit, and must purchase their own choir uniform. All choristers must also sign a commitment form whereby they agree to abide by the guidelines of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir.

Auditions for the 2013/14 season will be held on May 20th & 21st, and in early September 2013. The audition will consist of a set piece (see below), and some sight-reading and ear tests. An accompanist will be provided.
